he Baptism in the Spirit's effectiveness in reactivating baptism consists in this: finally man contributes his part -- namely, he makes a choice of faith, prepared in repentance, that allows the that allows the work of God to set itself free and to emanate all its strength. It is as if the plug is pulled and the light is switched on. The gift of God is finally "untied" and the Spirit is allowed to flow like a ftragrance in the Christian life.

  • Peter Hocken
During the night between Friday and Saturday, in the early morning hours of 10 June 2017, the Lord called back to Him a great man, Father Peter Hocken. He died at the age of almost 85. He was a servant of God, a friend, a priest who loyally served the Body of Christ until his last breath, all the world round. The Lord gave him an extraordinary intellect and wisdom, together with the experience of baptism in the Holy Spirit. He also received from God the talent and ability to provide specific and comprehensible theological explanations and descriptions of spiritual experiences that are taking place within the Church, notably after the Second Vatican Council.

"I have a dream," he began, "that one day on the red hills of Georgia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. "I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

We all know, based on our personal experience, that the cooperation with most intelligent people is not often easy. These people usually do not establish friendship easily. It is interesting also that university graduates with an honour degree usually do not fit in to the working environment in the best way and that their high intellect is of a little help in overcoming personal or marriage crises.

The aim of the “Jesus Heals” prayer gatherings is experiencing the fact that God is Love. He is Love that wants to give itself to other people. God wants to show us His mercy even through healing, signs, wonders, and miracles.

Story - Martin Hunčár

Martin Hunčár (1971) lives in Bratislava with his wife and two sons. He studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak Technical University; he also attended courses at the Bible School and is currently studying theology at the Oral Roberts University. (distance learning). He is dean of the Biblical School under Word of Life Slovo života, and second pastor of the Body as well as head of publishing house and of Sunday school. He preaches the word of God in Slovakia and in the neighbouring countries. He publishes his articles in the Slovak magazine Víťazný život (Victorious Life).

My conversion does not fall under the category „extraordinary“. I know you would like to hear about the miraculous conversion of a former drug-addicted or alcohol-addicted. I was neither drug-addicted nor alcohol-addicted. Maybe this is the reason why my conversion was even more miraculous. In many cases, those who live a “correct and honest” life do not feel the need to change their life. It was my case. I grew up in a family where everybody believed in God; my parents are hardworking people and they have good moral bases; my childhood was fine. Nevertheless, God had secondary importance. Exteriorly everything seemed to be ok, but interiorly I felt a great sense of void. I was more and more realising that I am a sinner. I felt like an Old Testament believer: I received the law, I knew the effect of sin, and I made efforts to stay away from it - though with no results. I became a hypocrite. The contrasts between Sunday and the rest of the week were getting deeper and deeper.

Once I met a Christian who spoke brightly about Jesus. It was something completely new for me. I thought God belongs only to church. But it looked like this man really knew Him. Then, some one gave me a present: the Bible. It was another breakthrough in my life. On the one hand I was fascinated by all those stories; on the other hand I was once more convinced that I am a sinner. My willingness to meet God was getting stronger and stronger. I remember once I prayed like that:

“Oh God, if You are there, please, I want to know You!“

And God did not let me wait for long time. In April 1990 during an evangelization session I gave my life to Jesus. For me it was important to understand that I am not the „good son“, but I am the „lost son“ z (as you can read in the Luke 15). . I understood that all my good acts are not enough for my salvation. It broke my pride. At the same time, I also had thought like this: “after all, I am not such a bad guy; I'm sure there are many people who are a lot worse than me”. I finally capitulated and realised that I am not better than somebody who is in jail for having committed some crimes. I also understood that God has infinite love for me, regardless of my mistakes. What Jesus made on His Cross suddenly became a personal and real experience for me. I tasted the freedom I so longed for; my heart was full of peace and joy.

He is the author of six books for children and youth. The most famous of these books is Ako Janko Oriešok porazil draka (How Little John defeated the Dragon)
It may sound strange for you, but the fact the God loves me is not a problem for me. Probably it is because I always felt loved, since my childhood. I never experienced something like refusal (as many other people did). The second factor is the fact that I simply believed in God's love. When I open whatsoever passage of the Bible, I meet His love. Therefore, although I am always aware of my failures, I don’t consider them as something that could limit or prevent God from loving me. Unlike our human love, God’s love is unconditional.

The motor for my relation with Jesus is His grace. Although people generally consider me as a stable person, I do know my mistakes. Nevertheless, I am aware of the fact that God is loyal, loving, and forgiving - and all this brings me back into His arms. My God never leaves me. He is always at my side. He helped me so many times. All this urges and encourages me to follow Him in my everyday life.

In 2001 I had a sort of crisis. Many people with whom I was spiritually linked left the movement I worked for. I tried not to manifest it too much, but my heart was wounded because of that. Nevertheless, I think I was able to maintain a blessing approach. When I meet anyone of them even after so many years, I feel all right and I am glad to have a talk with them. Apart from that, I had a chance to know many other excellent and faithful friends. I didn't experience a similar crisis toward God and I hope I will not experience it. Sometimes I think Christians exaggerate with their dark valleys and spiritual deserts. For a Christian it should be normal to be happy, content, and well balanced. Yes it's true, sometimes I also feel a sort of deficit toward God; but this deficit is caused mainly by the fact that I am busy; for the rest, I have a good relation with God.

I did experience a lot of miracles. Sometimes they were situations when I preached the Gospel in discotheques, during compulsory military service or during missions. I had to face a lot of confrontations, but God always protected me against those who didn’t accept me; and some people converted right there. I have personally experienced many cases of supernatural healing. For example, I prayed for a woman who was almost blind (at one eye) and then she suddenly regained her sight. In many cases of healing it happened that – after preaching – I received words of knowledge from God and I addressed those people who were present. Later, these people witnessed that God touched them and that they were healed from different diseases. My wife was eight days in coma and she woke up only after urgent prayers of believers, although the doctors said she had little chances. The greatest miracle is that some people close to me converted; some of them keep ministering and one of them has become a preacher.

The most important element is the Word of God. When I read it, I feel as though it is speaking directly to my heart. Good preaching also leads me to „sharpen“ my blade. . I had the honour to meet excellent preachers who were a great inspiring source for me. Last but not least, God speaks to me when I am alone with Him during prayer.

My vocation is quite wide. With regard to the gifts of servant according to Ephesians 4, the most significant gift I have is the ministry of pastor and teacher.Apart from that I perceive some talent in managerial and administrative activities. In recent times I have also perceived that God is leading me to creative things (like theatre or fiction writing).

The way to God is simple and always open. . It just takes to come to Him with sincerity in our hearts, by acknowledging our sinfulness and believing in His love (which got manifested on the Cross). If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, ask Him with faith to enter your heart and to purify you.
